Mucuna powder — also known as Velvet Bean, Kapikacchu or Cowhage — is a legume, traditionally used within Ayurveda for general wellbeing, the brain and hormones. In Chinese Medicine it is known as a Jing tonic (primal essence or energy). Modern research classifies Mucuna as an Adaptogen and lists it as a nutraceutical nootropic. Studies suggest it contains high levels of l-dopa, anti-oxidants, may be an aphrodisiac, improve sperm health, and potentially provide a protective and restorative effect on the brain.
